Guatemala Sailfish School Report

January 17th 2013

The sailfish bit off Guatemala cooled off as we arrived, but was still considered average with 32 releases on fly, over 5 days. We caught numerous yellow fin tuna and mahi mahi on fly including doubles in all three species. The crew on the Rum Line was terrific and we had lots of fun and laughs. Fresh mahi mahi makes great ceviche and the tuna was some of the best sashimi I have eaten in a long time.

Next trip is March 7, 8th & 9th, for Guatemala Sailfish School. Instruction is provided; learn how to make the cast, set the hook and fight a billfish. All catch and release.

The trout are feeding in Chile. Join me for a week of trout fishing in the Chilean Patagonia: March 23-30. Arrive in Santiago on March 22nd and join me for a wine tasting at the Errazuriz Estate, then enjoy dinner at a fine Chilean steak house. Late March is an excellent time for trout, as the Chinook Salmon are spawning, and the trout are feeding on eggs, and your egg patterns. Other dates are available: the weeks of February 16 & March 2. Call me and we will find a way to get you there for some of the best trout fishing, anywhere!

I will be at the Somerset, NJ Fly Fishing Show, scheduled for January 25, 26 & 27th. The Winston-Salem NC Fly Fishing Show is February 8th & 9th, and the Lancaster, PA show is March 2nd & 3rd. Visit my booth, Uncommon Ventures, and I will give you a discount coupon for one of my destinations.
