Rio Pico, Argentina Trout Fishing
Somehow one of the Andes Mountains went missing, and in its place is a lush, rich, and fertile region with dozens of spring creeks, lakes, swamps, and estuaries.
There are three species of trout found here: brown, rainbow, and brook trout. The trout run large here, and the brook trout are some of the largest to be found. Every day brings a different style of fishing, from wading to drift boats to stalking trout in tiny alpine streams.
The lodge is very comfortable, the food is four-star, and you are surrounded by Patagonian culture. Your guides are Argentinian; the beef is some of the most tender and flavorful in the world, and the wine flows like a spring creek.
Pick wildflowers, ride a horse, and finish your week with the classic Patagonian asado: a small lamb cooked whole in front of an open fire.
Six days of fishing and seven nights are $7,700 per angler, double occupancy.
You will want to spend a day or two in Buenos Aires, often referred to as the Paris of South America. BA has a vibrant nightlife. Learn to dance the tango. Relax in a café-style setting at a sidewalk table, sipping a glass of wine while people-watching. U.S. dollars and the English language are readily accepted.
The seasons are reversed due to the Southern Hemisphere. November and April are the shoulders of the season. January, February, and March book up quickly.
