    Uncommon Ventures serves discerning fly anglers who are willing to travel for the very best experiences. We are not a supermarket for fishing trips. We have selected or created the best opportunities for resident trout and sea-run trout.

    Our Stikine River Alaskan adventure is designed to ensure anglers have instruction and plenty of salmon to cast to. Destinations have been carefully researched, and clients are efficiently prepared. Hosted trips add a layer of insurance for the very best possible experience. Your host serves as your coach, advocate, and confidant through the entire process, from trip planning to final review.

    Your host is the initial contact through post-trip review. Continuity ensures consistency and accuracy. Your host provides an added layer of counsel and support in addition to the guides.

    I understand the dynamic because my own fishing activities rotate between guide, client, and host. I have fished many streams in the wading boots of a client.

    The essence of fly fishing is making the cast efficiently and presenting the fly in a way that attracts the fish. For the beginning fly fisher, I will work with you to improve your casting. Your growth as a fly angler and your enjoyment during the adventure are my priorities.

  • Meet Your Host: Austin Hepburn

    I fell in love with the outdoors at an early age. Bait fishing with my father in the bay behind Avalon, NJ, ignited my passion. My curiosity spread to freshwater and the woods of Gladwyne, PA.

    My first fly cost me a nickel. I was eight years old, experimenting in my pursuit of catching fish, reptiles, and other wild animals. My first summer in Alaska occurred during college, forever shaping my concept of adventure.

    Bluefish and sharks in New Jersey, trout in North Central Pennsylvania, and tarpon in Florida progressed to Patagonia, where it wasn't just the fish but the people and the culture. Jake Jordan came into my life and introduced me to billfish on the fly in Central America. Through it all, Alaska has always been my second home.

    Fooling the fish with a properly presented fly is still my passion. Sharing this pursuit with others brings me tremendous satisfaction. I enjoy teaching like-minded people to master the art of casting a fly, fighting a fish, and appreciating the great outdoors.
